Robert Chabinga Breaks Silence on Death Rumours, Says He Is “Very Much Alive”

Former Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Robert Chabinga has broken his silence after reports of his alleged death spread across social media, assuring Zambians that he is alive, well and currently in Lusaka.

In a live Facebook video, Chabinga said the rumours had triggered a wave of calls and messages from concerned family members, friends and supporters who wanted to establish whether he was still alive.

“Unfortunately, I'm very much alive. I'm not sick. I've never been sick,” he said.

Chabinga also addressed claims that he had been admitted to Victoria Hospital, transferred to the military hospital at Maina Soko and later evacuated to South Africa for medical treatment.

He dismissed the reports, insisting that he had never been to the hospitals mentioned.

The former opposition leader appeared determined to put the speculation to rest, telling viewers that the video was genuine and that he was speaking for himself.

“This is not AI, it's me. It's me, Honourable Chabinga, AKA Chavs International,” he said.

He also denied suggestions that he had been poisoned, explaining that he was careful about his lifestyle and the food and drinks he consumed.

Chabinga used the opportunity to caution people against sharing unverified information, saying such reports could cause unnecessary panic across the country.

He recalled similar rumours previously circulated about President Hakainde Hichilema and urged social media users to verify information before publishing or forwarding it.

The former opposition leader also thanked supporters, friends and relatives, both in Zambia and abroad, who had reached out with messages of encouragement.

For those celebrating the reports of his supposed death, Chabinga said he held no ill feelings towards them, adding that he was thick skinned and did not allow criticism to weigh him down.

“I am very, very okay in Lusaka, quietly relaxing and having my personal programmes,” he said.

His response comes after a period of relative silence following his loss in the 2026 elections, which he also briefly addressed during the live broadcast.

Chabinga ended his message by wishing Zambians a blessed night, reiterating that reports of his death were false.
