Three days after its closure over sanitation concerns, Hungry Lion Monze has reopened its doors to the public following a successful health reinspection.
The outlet was temporarily closed by Monze Town Council after health inspectors identified several hygiene and safety concerns at the premises.
However, a follow up inspection conducted on September 30 found that most of the identified defects had been addressed.
Monze Town Council Public Relations Officer Kanchele Kanchele said the kitchen and food preparation areas were clean, drainage systems had been unblocked and the surroundings were free from pests.
Following the inspection, Assistant Director of Public Health Buleke Felix issued a formal notice lifting the closure.
The reopening follows compliance with requirements under the Food Safety Act, Public Health Act and Solid Waste Regulation Act.
Mr Kanchele said the council will continue monitoring the outlet and warned that any future violations could result in permanent closure and legal action.
He has also urged residents to remain vigilant and report food outlets that fail to meet required hygiene and safety standards, noting that poor food safety can contribute to diarrhoeal diseases such as cholera.
The council says inspections will continue across food outlets in the district, while business owners have been urged to comply with health and safety regulations to avoid disruptions to their operations.
