Zambia Army Special Forces to Take Part in Lusaka Cleaning Exercise During 43rd Anniversary
Members of the Zambia Army Special Forces Corps will be joining efforts to clean Lusaka as part of activities marking their 43rd anniversary on November 9, 2026.
The Corps, which was formed in 1983, is marking more than four decades of service to the country, with this year's commemorations placing particular emphasis on environmental cleanliness and public health.
As part of the programme, the Special Forces Corps will partner with the Lusaka City Council (LCC) in a city-wide cleaning exercise supporting the Keep Zambia Clean and Healthy campaign.
However, the Army has clarified that the initiative should not be mistaken for a military deployment.
Instead, the exercise is a community outreach activity organised as part of the anniversary celebrations, reflecting the Corps' decision to use the occasion to give back to society.
Commander Zambia Army, Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele, has congratulated the Corps on reaching the milestone, recognising its contribution to safeguarding national peace and security, as well as promoting peace beyond Zambia's borders.
The approach is not entirely new. Professional organisations often use their anniversary celebrations to undertake activities that benefit the communities they serve, including outreach programmes and support for vulnerable groups.
Last year, the Marines and other Special Forces units marked the 42nd anniversary of Special Forces Day through sporting competitions, physical fitness demonstrations and donations to vulnerable members of society.
This year's celebrations will once again provide an opportunity for the Corps to reflect on its history and achievements while demonstrating that service to the nation can extend beyond its military responsibilities.
The anniversary is observed annually on November 9.
